Edwin Joseph Neely.

Neely was 18 when he enlisted into the United States Army, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on October 12th, 1942. His family included his father William H. Neely, his mother Catherine Neely, and his siblings William H, John M, Mary, and William F. Neely. He was not married and was 18 years old when the war broke out in Europe. He attended college for 3 years before enlisting.

Before Neely had enlisted, the United States had already been at war with Japan, as well as the other Axis powers. The threats of these powerful nations likely prompted many young American men, including Neely, into action.

Neely is pictured above with his girlfriend (right) and his sister (left). The death of fathers, husbands, sons and brothers left a scar for many people who were forced to stay back in the household, never seeing their beloved again.

Edwin is seen playing with his younger brother, William F. The impact of his death on his family can never truly be known, but his relationship seemed to be impenetrable with them.
